Course Overview

About Course

In enterprise computing, mainframes run the backbones of critical financial, government, and large-scale business operations. Our 40‑hour Mainframe Administrator Training empowers IT professionals to effectively manage, secure, and optimize these vital systems. Beginning with hardware architecture and LPAR principles, participants gain confidence in using z/OS interfaces like TSO/ISPF and job processing via JCL and JES. Practical modules equip them to manage DASD storage—including SMS policies—and maintain dataset catalogs efficiently.

Performance monitoring is enhanced through SMF and RMF lab work, allowing participants to diagnose bottlenecks and optimize resources accurately. Security is a major focus: hands-on RACF exercises show how to enforce access control, perform audits, and implement cryptographic measures. System maintenance via SMP/E empowers trainees to apply patches correctly while minimizing operational disruptions.

Core subsystems like CICS and DB2 are taught from installation through performance tuning, with labs simulating production tasks such as startup/shutdown procedures, logging, utilities, and SQL workload optimization. Networking skills cover TCP/IP, VTAM, USS, and leveraging high-speed HiperSockets for inter-LPAR communication.

Participants also learn automation with CLIST and REXX scripting for routine tasks, plus troubleshooting techniques for I/O and system failures. A final capstone brings all elements together—designing and deploying a mainframe environment incorporating z/OSMF, sysplex configuration, disaster recovery planning, and governance frameworks.

Led by certified IBM Z professionals, this training provides slide decks, lab guides, and community support for ongoing learning. Graduates emerge ready to take on roles like System Programmer, z/OS Administrator, or Storage/Network Specialist. The curriculum aligns with IBM’s Mainframe System Administrator track and industry best practices—ensuring participants are well-equipped to support high-volume, mission-critical workloads that power the world’s economy
